If you use a Fitbit or a Pixel Watch alongside an iPhone, you already know the frustration of managing split health data. For years, cross-platform health tracking required clumsy workarounds or third-party syncing apps.
That hassle is finally over. The latest update to the Google Health app for iOS (formerly known as the Fitbit app) brings native support for syncing your wearable fitness data directly into Apple Health.
True Two-Way Sync Has Arrived
While Apple Health data could already flow into Google Health, the integration was strictly one-way. Version 5.05 of the Google Health app completes the loop by introducing full two-way synchronization between both platforms.
Fitbit hardware has historically lacked native Apple Health integration. This update removes the friction, allowing iOS users to consolidate all their fitness, sleep, and activity metrics into Apple's primary health hub without relying on third-party utilities.
What Data Transfers to Apple Health?
The new update allows a wide range of everyday health metrics collected by your wearable device to seamlessly sync across platforms.
-
Workout Activity: Tracked exercise records, total steps, and distance traveled export directly to Apple Health.
-
Vital Signs: Continuous heart rate measurements and vitals update inside your iOS dashboard.
-
Sleep Metrics: Sleep tracking data logged by your device transfers over automatically.
Note: As flagged by users on Reddit, not every single metric makes the jump just yet. Highly specialized data points like Heart Rate Variability (HRV) currently do not transfer over in this version.
How to Enable Apple Health Syncing
Setting up the new native sync takes only a minute once your app is updated:
- Open the iOS App Store and update to version 5.05 of the Google Health app (available for free).
- Open the app and navigate to your Connections menu.
- Select Apps and services.
- Choose Apple Health and grant the required permissions to share data.
Bonus Feature: Smart Health Links
Alongside the Apple Health integration, version 5.05 includes Smart Health Links. This tool allows users to securely share relevant medical records directly with healthcare providers or family members.
Whether you are tracking daily steps on a Fitbit Charge or monitoring workouts with a Pixel Watch, this long-overdue update makes iOS wearable integration significantly smoother.
